Price-Osgood-Valentine papers, 1588-1910.

Papers of the interrelated Price, Osgood, Valentine families consist of correspondence, deeds, legal papers, business receipts and papers, diaries and memoranda books, account books, orderly books, and genealogical material, 1588-1910. Price family papers include correspondence and legal documents concerning land acquistions by Roger Price in Boston and Hopkinton, Mass., rector and Bishop's commissary for King's Chapel, Boston, Mass., 1729-46, and church matters and politics. His son, William Price's (1737-1802) letters describe battles and general military life in the British Army during the Seven Years' War in Europe and family matters. Prices papers also include an orderly book kept from, 20 Aug. 1758-20 Sept. 1760 with military orders of Prince Ferdinand and the allied forces during the Seven Years' War in Europe describing the Battles of Minden and Warburg in Germany. Other orderly books include orders for forces under the command of Gen. Lord George Lennox stationed in northern Europe, 1769-74, and Maj. Gen. Sir David Lindsay on the island of Minorca, 1778-79. Also includes correspondence of Andrew Price discussing activities at Magdeline College, England and family matters; and four Ladies' Memorandum books of Elizabeth Price. The Osgood family papers include correspondence exchanged between brothers David and Kendall and Kendall's son Isaac discussing family matters and business transactions. Papers relating to Isaac contain mostly personal and business correspondence pertaining to his Cambridge legal practice. Also included are account books and daybooks of Kendall Osgood's medical practice in Peterborough, New Hampshire and his diaries, 1786-95, describing daily activities, meals eaten with friends and family, and weather. Also included is an orderly book, 1758, of their father Capt. Isaac Osgood (1713-92) from the French and Indian War describing the march to Lake George, payments, and a list of deaths in his company, in Ebenezer Nichols' Massachusetts Provincial Forces regiment. Valentine family papers consist of Maryann (Price) Valentine's correspondence with her sister, Olivia (Price) Hall and her family and friends. Lawson Valentine's correspondence pertains maily to his merchant business in Boston. The collection also includes papers of Elizabeth (Bull) Price concerning her claim to her father, Jonathan's (d. 1729) estate, Bull's Wharf in Boston. In 1750 the administration of the estate was turned over to Roger Price, and the Bull estate became Price family property. In 1821 Andrew Price sold Bull's Wharf to Lawson Valentine.
